Losing a loved one is never easy, but when the loss is due to a homicide it is beyond devastating. Families are overwhelmed with grief, shame, and isolation. Who will understand your pain and be there for you?
It all started when…
Survivors Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) was established to offer supportive services for homicide survivors and to advocate on behalf of those murdered in Baltimore City. Since 1993 the non-profit organization has assisted families with coping with the loss of their loved ones and advocates for legislation to support victims and survivors’ rights.
Survivors may eventually reach a point in their healing process where they begin feeling empowered and have a desire to advocate on behalf of homicide victims and their families. The SAVE members are those advocates, alumni of the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City Family Bereavement Center, many completing, some still participating in group and/or individual counseling.
